Fallout from a gamer’s perspective. Are Rebel Moon Parts 1 & 2 worth watching?
Top TV shows to check out.
Welcome to the first proper post from The Cosmic Scroll! To get the ball rolling, I’ll look at some recent reviews. To start, I’ll go with a TV show - Fallout, and Rebel Moon Parts 1 & 2. Next, I might do some book reviews.
I want to keep this newsletter short and to the point. Although that may change in the future depending on feedback. I don’t know if this linking business works, but I thought it would give you the reader an option to skip to what interests you.
We’ll see how it pans out.
Is the Fallout show worth watching? A gamer’s perspective
I loved the Fallout games - by which I mean Fallout 3, Fallout 4, and New Vegas. I think I also played something on an iPad once. But the main games were dear to my heart - partly because they represent hundreds of hours of my life, and partly because it is such a fun world that should work well as a series.
But it has to be done right. Happily, they did a cracking job.
Rebel Moon Part One: A Child of Fire
I’ll do both Rebel Moons, but just one at a time. I couldn’t sit through five or six hours in one go and I reviewed the first one before the second one came out.
A Child of Fire was fun, looked great, and was a tad shallow. It is essentially The Seven Samurai / Magnificent Seven - but mostly just the bit where we meet the members of the gang.
The characters are cool, but we don’t really learn much about them. The bad guy was fun, in an over the top kind of way. This all feels very much like a Part One.
If you like Snyder’s work, you will enjoy this but will long for the inevitable Snyder cut.

Rebel Moon: The Scargiver. Better than Part One?
Yes it is better. It fleshes out the characters a bit more - although it does that in just one scene where the characters just take it in turns, which is a little odd.
There is also a lot of wheat harvesting going on, which is also a little odd. It certainly didn’t need to be in slo-mo.
Happily there is a lot of action, and the stakes feel a bit bigger than the first one. But not by a lot. The Empire - or whatever the bad guys are called - turn up in greater numbers and the fights are great.

So, there you go. The first newsletter. I hope you liked it. I’m not convinced that this is the best format. Maybe in the future it will be better to just post the whole review here. When I get a few more followers I will listen to the feedback.
Essentially, I just want to share good science fiction and fantasy.
